IMLS and WebJunction Convening Examines Continuing Education for Library Professionals

“Today the Institute of Museum and Library Services and WebJunction hosted a convening of fifteen library continuing education influencers in Arlington, Virginia, including representatives of state libraries, library associations, non-profit providers of library continuing education, and schools of library and information science. They gathered to discuss the state of continuing education for library staff in the United States and to seek sustainable solutions for unmet needs within the library community. The goal of the meeting was to identify opportunities–through new partnerships, projects, and action steps–to move libraries forward and grow library leadership.”

OCLC’s WebJunction Marks 10 Years of Supporting and Serving Libraries

WebJunction receives grant to support operations

“OCLC has received a $4.1 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support five years of ongoing operations of WebJunction, the learning place for libraries. Built with grant funding from the Gates Foundation and launched in 2003, OCLC’s WebJunction has helped more than 70,000 library staff build the job skills they need to meet the challenges of today’s environment. WebJunction.org provides a wealth of training resources—including online courses, webinar presentations, downloadable curricula, and real-world examples collected from libraries—to share the knowledge, skills and support that power relevant, vibrant libraries. WebJunction programs support library staff working daily to connect their local communities with the content, space and services they need to enrich and transform lives.”

WebJunction–British Columbia joins online learning community for library staff

OCLC – “WebJunction, the leader in online learning for library staff, is working with the British Columbia Library Association (BCLA), British Columbia Teacher-Librarians’ Association, and the British Columbia Library Trustees Association to launch WebJunction–British Columbia, the first WebJunction learning community created for libraries outside the United States. Members of the three associations and public library staff and volunteers in British Columbia will have access to courses, articles, discussions and a professional network that will keep their skills up-to-date and help their libraries stay relevant to current user needs.”
