In long Camden County library contract dispute, hint of a breakthrough

“Amber Pallante recalls when a woman came into the South County Regional Branch of the Camden County Library System dressed up in finery, as if for a wedding. She was seeking internet access so she could watch a family wedding abroad through Skype, as she was unable to attend.Pallante, the principal librarians’ assistant at the branch in Atco, called it one of her most gratifying days at work.At the Nilsa I. Cruz-Perez Downtown Branch in Camden, manager Julie Tozer tells of recently helping a patron who had health issues and complicated medical bills that prevented timely submission of a tax-filing extension.” (via Philly.com)

Thomas Galante, Queens Library CEO, calls $392,000 pay ‘average’

“The head of the Queens Library defended his six-figure salary Monday — insisting his lucrative pay and perks were “average” compensation in the nonprofit world.Thomas Galante said there was nothing improper about his $391,594 salary, or the $140,000 he spent last year to renovate his offices.But his ample pay package, first reported in the Daily News, shocked and surprised library employees, who have been without a raise since 2008.” (via NY Daily News)

ARL Annual Salary Survey 2011–2012

“Washington, DC—The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has published the ARL Annual Salary Survey 2011–2012, which analyzes salary data for all professional staff working in the 126 ARL member libraries during FY 2011–2012. Data are reported for 9,910 professional staff in the 115 university ARL libraries and for 4,046 professional staff in the 11 non-university ARL libraries. Data for university library staff are usually reported in three distinct groups: general library systems, health sciences libraries, and law libraries.”

MLS Salaries up 2.8%

Lynn Blumenstein – “The American Library Association-Allied Professional Association (ALA-APA) reports that the average salary for librarians with ALA-accredited master’s degrees increased 2.8 percent from 2006, up $1,550 to $57,809.”
