Denver Library brews a month of craft beer, coffee and tea events

“There’s more to libraries than books. To prove it, the Denver Public Library has brewed up a month of events focused on craft beer, coffee, kombucha and even comedy. BrewHa!Ha! kicks off next week with two beer releases plus lessons on brewing kombucha and herbal potions. There are also coffee tastings throughout the month, lessons on cooking with beer and coffee, a book club and a concert by Cop Circles and Thug Entrancer. And for those already imbibing at breweries and coffee houses, there will be deals throughout the city in September from 32 partners. Getting a deal is simple: Just show your library card.” (Via Denver Post)

Denver Public Library’s new on-site social worker settling into job

“Elissa Hardy wasn’t used to being the only social worker in the room, let alone in a whole organization. But Hardy, the newly appointed community resource specialist at the Denver Public Library, is already making an impact in a way that’s helping many library patrons and also her coworkers. The Denver Public Library funded Hardy’s job for two years starting in 2015 and she started work in late February as one of just a few social workers based in a public library system in North America. Hardy works at the central branch of Denver Public Library, 10 W. 14th Ave. Parkway but can head to any of the 25 branches if needed.” (via Denver Post)

Denver Public Library launches local music service Volume

“Like books, CDs have gone the way of vinyl and cassette. This generation’s musicians are emerging in a digital landscape. Albums are sold as MP3s, branding is done through social media, and many times the instruments themselves are nothing more than laptops and hard drives. Music, along with technology, moves quickly, and it’s up to traditionalists to catch up. In the year of its 125th birthday, the Denver Public Library is hitting play on a digital means to disseminate local music to the community.” (via The Denver Post)
