New York Public Library risks tears with list of 100 most popular children’s books of the last century

While classics like ‘The Cat in the Hat’ and modern works such as ‘Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus’ made the New York Public Library’s list of the 100 most popular children’s books of the last 100 years, favorites including ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ have been omitted.” (via New York Daily News)

Storybird Aims To Attack The Last Bastion Of The Printed Word, The Kids’ Bookshelf

“If paper books are going to survive anywhere for the next few years, it’s in our schools and on our kids’ bookshelves. However a company called Storybird has built a platform for kids and adults to build and share picture books in a few minutes. The books use pre-rendered artwork and allow authors to drag and drop pictures and text right into their work. Think of it as fanfic for the Poky Little Puppy set.”

If you have a smartphone or an iPad, you can download a kids’ book app in no time. From classics to stories created specifically as an app, these enhanced e-books include narration, animation and interactive features. Some children are even getting their first exposure to books on a digital device.”
