Library Planet discusses the possible "death" of RSS because of all the discussion about the right way to syndicate content.
A whole chapter on RSS and it may be "dead" soon? Ack!! My guess is that the basic RSS stuff will be around for a ling time to come. It might just change a bit...
Posted by Steven at June 24, 2003 11:59 PMI am hoping that it (the leading name choice is now ECHO) just turns into some sort of superset of RSS. The original issue revolves around the use of optional RSS elements from namespaces being used in place of recommended elements from the RSS 2.0 spec. But now they are hoping to include some sort of API support in the new format as well. I still think RSS is going to be around for awhile, if only for backward compatability.
Posted by: Michael Pate on June 25, 2003 09:46 AMThe talk is also about including posting, as well as reading, specifications in the standard. I can see that opening up a can of worms that could mire the whole thing down for a long time.
Looking forward to the book. How can someone get an autographed copy?
