If you still haven't tried out an aggregator, take a look at Wild Grape.
It looks like Newzcrawler and requires .Net from Microsoft (which is a bit annoying).
If anybody gives it a try, please comment.

It doesn't seem to connect to anything when I try to update channels. I feel like there's something obvious that I'm missing, but it beats me. At least I had no problem importing my .opml file.
Anyway, unless I figure it out, it looks like I'll be sticking with Syndirella, bugs and all, for the moment.
