I won't be able to print out the latest issue of Cites and Insights until Monday, but this one looks like a goodie. I am a big fan of both Walt and Jenny, and will read the lengthy discussion that took place between the two intently. I hope Jenny has time to respond on her blog.
Posted by Steven at April 4, 2003 11:19 PMWell...you'll read *portions* of the discussion. I believe I've done an honest job of excerpting Ms.Levine's lengthy, articulate email, and not too kindly a job of excerpting/summarizing my own semi-articulate responses. I may be wrong.
The whole discussion was considerably longer than the entire three-part Perspective it's part of; it would have taken roughly half the 20-page issue to run in full. So I cut 7,000+ words down to 2,000 or so. With considerable uneasiness and difficulty...and came very close to tossing the whole thing, but just couldn't see doing that.
(I'll send notices to Levine and other people who played major roles in this issue on Monday, which is also when *I'll* get a proper, duplexed, print copy...and when I'll post the notice to lists.)
We shall see. If Levine feels badly treated and responds via email (less than 1,000 words) as well as at Shifted Librarian, I'll probably run the response unedited when space permits.
