I believe the problem is with the software, its just not efficient enough at actually filter the content. It's too aimed at keywords.

Hello,

Interesting topic indeed. I do believe that book lending would still exist in some fashion as it's one of few means for enter city folks to keep their minds sparked.

Well done.

If I am not mistaken, this may be the first case since US v. ALA was decided in 2003 to directly file an "as applied" CIPA challenge. I have reached out to both the ACLU of Eastern Missouri and the ACLU to offer my assistance in this matter. Who knows, it might help to have a sort of bipartisan opposition to the blocking of religious web sites, etc.

Actually, having a volunteer-driven library makes a lot of sense. A public library exists for the benefit of its community. It is fitting that the community support the library in both tax revenues and volunteer services.

Many successfully run volunteer service organizations such as Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (90% volunteer 10% paid staff) and American Red Cross exemplify how good, thorough volunteer training, leadership, and management can be used effectively to maximize operating resources. It can be done.

Let's be honest. Do you want the doors to stay open? The library's mission is to serve the public, not to provide job security to library staffers. It's called non-profit for a reason. (And yes, I am a library worker. Let the hate begin...)

Amazing! The Brooklyn Public Library defrauds the federal government of over 2 1/2 million dollars, The New York Public Library has a president making way over 1/2 million a year and who is part of the 0.19% for pleading guilty to a DUI/DWI offense he got while driving the "public" library's car with a ).19% BAC, and the New York libraries serve up unlimited porn so bad that even the Brooklyn DA is referred a victim to me, and Carnegie feels the need to reward that with $5 million more.

Amazing!

How about if Carnegie gives to deserving libraries instead, like the Cumberland County Library now being threatened with closure? http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thedailyjournal.com%2Fapps%2Fpbcs.dll%2Farticle%3FAID%3D2011312220023&h=TAQGfu8NiAQHq8EdD_DkwH0XukjeuKk2BVUfuZyaeUaaqjA

The New York libraries are quite capable of stealing or wasting funding as they see fit and do not need an additional $5 million. I call for Carnegie to support struggling libraries, not stealing libraries.

"Imagine walking into a public library filled with PlayStations, Wii game consoles and electric keyboards pumped up to maximum volume."

That would really suck. Patrons are already complaining about the noise from the teen room at our local library, and it doesn't even have any of that electronic crap.
