Jersey City library officials aim to raise $3 million for upgrades, restoration

“The Jersey City Free Public Library has begun fundraising efforts to raise $3 million for facility improvements to its main branch through a crowd-funding campaign. The city gave $5 million to help the library begin the first phase of construction in September, which includes the building of a new shaft and elevator and a handicap-accessible entrance, Library Director Priscilla Gardner said. The proposed $8 million renovations to the 113-year-old Main Library, located in the historic district, also include museum-quality stacks to preserve historic documents and maps, and better accommodations for the disabled.” (via
