A Debate Over Books and Sequestered Nooks
WSJ – “There are two big rows going on at the moment over here: live trees and dead trees. Government proposals to privatize large sections of woodland have seen our (largely urban) population stricken with pastoral nostalgia, and gearing up for a battle such as was last seen when the Ewoks took on the Galactic Empire at the end of “Return of the Jedi.” In the dead-tree department, the fight is over the projected mass closures of public libraries. These have seen (as some conservative commentators are quick to point out) members of the affluent, public-library-using middle classes championing their value to the poor.”
