Interesting story in light of the previous story about city council telling a library to “stick to just lending books” if they wanted a loan to stay open. In one sense, people are learning about and coming to expect greater services from libraries, which I think is a very good thing. But they aren’t willing to pay for it. Even in this story, the WSJ pointed out all these great resources that residents can access for “free” but didn’t mention that they aren’t actually “free’, but paid for with tax dollars. Perhaps people would better understand and appreciate the benefits of a library if they also truly understood the costs.
