UCSC students stage library sit-in for third night

Santa Cruz Sentinel – “After a two-hour meeting with library officials Wednesday, about 50 UC Santa Cruz students settled into their third day of protest at the Science and Engineering library, staging a “study-in” they said would end at midnight. At 10:30 p.m., unlike Monday’s sit-in, there was little police presence, and it was unclear if libraries would be closed early, as with Tuesday’s sit in. About 20 students met with Virginia Steel, university librarian, and a staff member to discuss ways to restore library hours. Some students praised library staff, insisting students not be pitted against them. Others were surprised when they were told by a choked-up librarian that the demonstrations weren’t helping.”
