How e-Books Could Smarten Up Kids and Stretch Library Dollars: A National Plan
From David Rothman (e-book guy)
“Today millions of children are still growing up in bookless homes. But suppose a well-stocked national digital library system existed for Americans of different ages, along with the means to encourage schoolchildren and others to use it.”
Sigh. David “Not Medical” Rothman’s been peddling this nationalized-elibrary scheme for a long time, and it’s really old. Apart from anything else, the more you get “national” and U.S. public libraries in the same conversation, the less you have local excellence. (The Feds will provide X and not ask for any control? Sure, that’s gonna happen: Take NCLB as a prime example.)
