Why Your Facebook Profile Isn’t Really Yours

Advertising Age – “Facebook has ticked off various constituencies over the years with its various new-product introductions and policies, but recently it has pushed the button of one group that advertisers have learned are a force to be reckoned with: online moms. Specifically, in this case, lactivists — or breast-feeding advocates.”

Personally, I have absolutely No Interest in watching/seeing anyone breastfeed! It’s not about porn, it’s not about vulgarity, it’s not about sex (although I do believe to do so purposely is vulgar and partially about exhibitionism). I don’t like it when mothers do it in storytime or anywhere else in the library. This is a personal & intimate act…it is not for the public to watch. Be discreet, besides, who really wants to see a saggy milk laden dripping breast aside form the nursing baby & father? How ugly!

Auntie Nanuuq, I bet you were the kid giggling during human development class in middle school because it was all so embarrassing. Guess what: it’s time for you to grow up. In case you missed the info as a result of all of your giggling, the female breast is a milk delivery system. Babies must be fed every 1-2 hours at first; what would you have a mother of two children do, remain at home (with the older child) until the new baby is several months old and no longer needs such frequent breastfeeding? Drag the toddler away screaming in the middle of story hour because the baby needs feeding and you can’t bear the sight of–gasp!–a human breast feeding a baby. I bet watching a baby nurse is a lot more pleasing to the eye than watching you stuff your face. You are contributing to the poor health of infants worldwide by making breastfeeding mothers feel embarrassed about breastfeeding their children when needed–stop hurting infants! This is not about your absurd preferences, this is about public health.
