The Online Search Party – A Way to Share the Load

NYTimes.com – “OPPORTUNITIES for social networking abound on the Internet, but not when it comes to one standard job: using a browser and search engine to comb the Web for information. That task is still typically done solo, because browser displays and search procedures have traditionally been designed for a single user.”

I read about this and went to have a look at the resource. Right at the top of the page it’s dated April 24th 2008. What’s that all about? Is it new, in which case why that date, and if it’s not new why is the NYT writing about it now, and why didn’t MicroSoft push details on this a little harder?

A couple of thoughts – it’s a *download* product! Does anyone really do that anymore? Secondly, it will only run in an IE environment. When is MicroSoft going to get over itself and start living in the real world? No wonder they’re lagging so badly behind Big G on search. Sad.

This is really cool! It would be nice not to feel lonely when doing searches and to have input without everyone leaning over the same computer.

I do agree that Microsoft needs to learn how to play better with others, and that people are really lazy on the ‘Net and do not want to download anything.
