Let me say as an old guy starting a second career that I love the thought of libraries growing (I know I said GROWING), with their patrons.
I don't have a problem with embracing any technology that gets kids to read. I am a bookseller working on my MLIS. I worked in restaurants for 30 years. I am 51 years old and plan on becoming a children's librarian.
During the WLA Conference the beginning of November of this month, I listened to a presentation on Teen and Tween spaces developed by Wisconsin Public Libraries.
The big revelation was that librarians found the kids would read while waiting, some even joining book groups. The kids that were not so popular at school became more popular because they were able to get to higher levels.
It's not anarchy - It's a game!
Embrace the future!
