I am responsible for adding gift materials to the library's collection. Hell yes, I "censor", if that's what you want to call it! If it doesn't fit the community, I don't add it...waste of time & money!

However, we might (do) have one book on Dianetics, one Book of Mormon, one Quran, a few right-wing fundamentalist (so-called) Christian books, just to round out our collection, but to add multiple copies in a community where they are not requested or circulated...not a happening thing. Not to mention, most people in this community who want to read such books, usually have their own copies...

So, on occasion (not usually) I add them, but as soon as it is time to weed, and I see that these books have circulated less than twice a year, and certainly not ever in the past 8-10 months, then I weed them.

Censorship? Maybe yes, maybe no!
