One million digitized books on the way to 7.5…

…and Google will be laughing on their way out the door, never to look back again.

Sad.

Eh, sad? What is the partnership with Google worth for UoM? More sadly is to hear these jealous comments from some librarians. It´s not exactly what you need to keep the libraries alive :-)

  2. Steven UNITED STATES Windows XP Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.11 Says:

Thanks for the comment Scooter. It’s probably worth more to Google than U of M, if you are talking dollars. Even for content, Google wins on that front too.

I don’ understand why I would be jealous. Of U of M? I don’t work for a competitor. Of Google? Well, aren’t we all jealous of Google?

I guess I don’t understand “Sad” either. Paul Courant clearly doesn’t think it’s sad. UMich doesn’t think it’s sad. Maybe it’s because I’m not jealous of Google (never have been), but this still strikes me as a win:win situation…even though it clearly doesn’t solve any presumed need for archival-quality digitization.

  4. Brad Spry UNITED STATES Mac OS X Netscape Navigator 5.0 Says:

“Obviously everyone wants to be successful, but I want to be looked back on as being very innovative, very trusted and ethical and ultimately making a big difference in the world.”
    –Sergey Brin

Sounds like quite the monster! I’d hate to run into him alone in the dark… Please protect us Steven!

I don’t the have the power to protect. Only inform. Sorry. :-)
