If it’s anything like those annoying TV’s they now have at Wal-Mart and some gas stations (GAS-TV? Who the heck did their branding?), they will probably get tuned out after a while as another distraction.
As for being confused with an academic library, hmm. Where I am working now, I am told stories of the days when students would go to the local B&N to study rather than to the academic library on campus. It was years of outreach, promotion, etc. to get them in the door. The situation is better now, thank the powers that be, but I am told it was pretty grave. Maybe it was a case of they did confuse it? Not sure how to take that to be honest.
Oh well, keep up keeping the rest of us up.

i find the combination of knowlege and entertainment interesting in this case. perhaps that is the boat that many libraries missed as people started moving toward spaces with magazines, movies, coffee shops and more.
the previous comment makes a good point about all of the ‘noise’ in the world today. we talk a lot about relevance and context and quality – and i’m not here to support the info-tainment industry, but it seems to me there is a little marketing lesson to be leared here.
