Wikipedia is Still Bad For Us…And So Are The Articles Telling Us About It
CNN – “It’s one of the top 10 most-visited sites worldwide, with over 2 million articles in its English language edition. But is online encyclopedia Wikipedia’s strength — that anyone can edit it — also its greatest weakness?”
Don’t like it? Don’t use it.
While I do like and use WP, I’m not sure I agree with your conclusion. If WP (or any source) is of poor quality, I feel like we have an obligation to make that known to our users.
Well yes, that’s always the ultimate, and I agree also with comments that say if you find something wrong there fix it, don’t complain about it.
However, that’s not always the point IMO. What if you DO like it, and DON’T realise that the content is not always up to scratch? We’re (we being information professionals) fine, because we know all about checking for quality and so on, but not everyone else has that understanding. I use it, but not for anything that’s crucial, and I think as information professionals we do need to keep a watchful eye on it and keep users briefed, as Simon says.
