September 16th, 2007

Jeri Krentz - “You’ll need a calculator to count the number of days Margo Fesperman has spent inside the Mecklenburg County jail. With a master’s degree in library and information science, she manages the jail library system. Fesperman’s mission, as she says, is to “fight crime with literacy.”

Mecklenburg County is miles ahead of most counties. Very few counties commit this far. I know of very few. Alachua County in Florida has one.
They circulate over 100,000 items a year.
There are thousands of people in jails and very few have library service. This is something that should be everywhere.
    Thanks for showing the way.
