Great, now the Book I can’t find at Borders I won’t be able to find at the library as well.

Oh, please! Name one bookstore that has as many volumes as an ordinary public library. It will be a disorganized mess without some system of classification.

I have issues with Dewey’s American-centric and Eurocentric system of organization, but it’s still a whole sight better than what the bookstores do.

At least they are trying to be more user friendly. If it does not work out, they can always go back to Dewey, right? Great headline by the way.

As I posted elsewhere on this topic, it is extremely idiotic for them to use bookstores as a model. I’ve had two experiences where it took a very long period of time, one was 20 minutes of searching and the other took 3 days to find the book, and do not think it’s feasible. While Dewey may have it’s problems, I use NLM and LC at my library, it is very simple to use, I was using it as a third grader in school, and efficient.

As for going back to Dewey, that is a solution, IF they can keep track of the the books. I have a funny feeling that, depending upon the size of the library, it may take several days to weeks to track down the books, label them, and organize them. During that time, the library would have to close.
