VIP Feeds and Getting Help.
May 25th, 2007That’s it!
I’m creating a folder of VIP feeds in Thunderbird. Why? Because I have so many feeds in my reader that I miss important ones like this from Michelle Boule. In it, she writes:
“I suppose the real point of writing this post is so that you, my readers and friends, would know why I have been behaving oddly. I also want to encourage those feeling overwhelmed to step back, let go, and find someone to talk to, professional or otherwise. It is amazing what a few words and a listening ear can do.”
I hear ya Michelle. It’s so hard to admit that we need help. Giving our fears and depressions a name is scary, but in the end, satisfying. Giving your emotions to a professional for help is also difficult. It means admitting that you are sick. I’m so glad that you are feeling better Michelle. She also writes:
“My family (right now only consisting of a husband and a slobbery dog) is more important than anything else in my life. Period. No negotiations.”
Yes! Yes! I’ll add to that post, saying that friends and family are more important than anything. Which brings me too….My VIP Feeds. I have grown close to many librarians over the past year and they have become more than colleagues. They are trusted friends. We meet on Twitter whenever we can (I’ve been bad, not having much time to get on Twitter lately) and I get to see them twice or three times a year. The measure of a friend, IMO, is that when you see them after a long time, it’s as if you had a drink with them the previous night. There are no odd or weird moments.
So, here are the VIP Feeds that I have added to Thunderbird, so that I never miss important posts like the one from Michelle.
+ Michelle Boule - My drinking buddy.
+ Meredith Farkas - My nap buddy (That’s not what it sounds like)
+ Amanda Etches-Johnson - My grammar checker.
+ Tom Ipri - The best. ’nuff said.
+ Walt Crawford - He is the reason I became a librarian.
+ Jason Griffey - Smartest guy. Ever!
+ Michael Sauers - A great guy. I give him a hard time sometimes and it’s only because I’m jealous of his knowledge of our profession.
+ Rochelle Hartman - She will always be my Mrs. R.
+ Iris Jastram - Library Trading Card visionary. Will never be shunned again!!
+ David Free - IWTBDF and podcasting king.
I will never miss a post by my friends again. Thanks guys for all you do. Luvya!!

You’re such a sweetheart, Steven.
That “nap buddy” comment totally reminds me of an episode of “Friends” where Joey and Ross were nap buddies and found that they took the best naps on the couch together. Hilarity ensued. I’m sure you’ve probably seen it.

Honored to be on that impressive list. And I’ve added Tom Ipri to my subscriptions (everyone else was already there, of course).

You must know I’m not bitter at being left out of your VIP list, Steven
Just kidding! But seriously, I think this will lead pundits to observe that what will logically follow is a VVIP list for a VIP list… heh.

Aw thanks, Steven. I come back from a simultaneously wonderful and -er- tiring weekend only to find my name listed next to bloggers that I respect and look up to. What a gift! And now I can make it through work (yes, WORK) today without feeling too sorry for myself.

Hi Steven, can you elaborate on why you became a librarian and / or how Walt played a part? I’m sure you have posted or written on that somewhere before but like my name says…thanks.

Steven,
You are such a doll face. Thanks for being a listening ear at CiL this year (over drinks of course). You are always on my VIP list. IWTBDF
