Bloggity-Blog-Blog-Blog – Bloglines v. Google Reader

Laura "Tegan" Gjovaag does a stream of consciousness review of Google Reader while comparing it to Bloglines.  Do take a look.  I like this quote, which I was thinking too as I fell madly in love with Google Reader:

"Here’s my thoughts, as I go through the new Google Reader… First off, before I even open the thing, I’m thinking how Google is slowly taking over my life. Their e-mail system is better than many others (I love being able to put emails in multiple "folders" with the labels function, and the spam filter is better than just about anyone else), I use their search engine almost exclusively, and they’ve bought Blogger. Despite their mantra "Don’t Be Evil", they’ve made some very depressing choices regarding politics and internet freedom. Hmmm… do I really want to turn over my blog reading to them as well?"

Chicago Librarian Does “Web Site of the Month” Posts

Leo Klein, who has commented twice today, has a neat looking blog (I thought I was looking at the NYT site for a second there).  Better yet, he’s started to do a "Web Site of the Month" post, with fantastic commentary.  This month he tackles the Queensborough Public Library, right here in NY.

Introducing the Technorati Support Forum!

Technorati just released a support forum.  This is something I wish we did at PubSub.  Our users didn’t even know each other on that level :-(

Speaking of which, I hope this is true.  Jon Mandell and Salim Ismail deserve the highest success.

No Sympathy For Internet Addict

Great stuff from Uncle Larry:

"In the you-can’t-make-this-up category of news, there’s the guy from upstate New York who is suing IBM for $5 million for improperly firing him for visiting an adult chat room on the Internet at work. You see, he’s a long-time sex addict and, more recently, an Internet addict. He visits chat rooms as treatment for the traumatic stress syndrome he developed after seeing an Army buddy killed during his Vietnam service in 1969. Oh, spare us, pleeez!"

New Site for Stony Brook University Health Sciences Library

I’ve been following the development of the new HSL web site for the University of Stony Brook, my alma mater (well, not HS, but the school’sundergrad psych department).

They’ve posted a screenshot of the new site, which is set to go live on 2/28. It’s made with Joomla and has some RSS goodies (but of course!).

I love that I’m seeing so much cool stuff on Flickr these days. Did anyone see some odd pictures this weekend? Apparently, they had major issues.

Google Reader! Bloglines is Kaput!

I’ve been having a go at Google Reader and all I have to say is…

OMG!!

Google may not have the best search engine these days (I’m a Yahooer), but they have some kick butt products.  Gmail is the best in e-mail and Google Reader is so very slick.  First, it had no issues importing 750 feeds (any other reader that I have tried chokes on them, including Bloglines), the interface is incredible, and, for some reason, I was able to read all of my feeds from midnight last night in about 30 minutes, a record for me (There were about 300 new posts).  Plus, it’s really easy to share posts.  Take a look at my shared items (heck, subscribe to it if you’d like).

I’ll be writing up a full review in my Library Stuff Revisted column for Information Today.

Update – I changed the title of the post as it made no sense. Also, I’m not the only one who has fallen in love with Google reader.
