Wyoming Authors Wiki

Wow! This is probably the slickest wiki I’ve seen from a libary related org.

Wyoming

The Wyoming Authors Wiki is a project of the Wyoming Center for the Book with some help (I think) from the Wymoming State Library.

Very extensive, plus contact information. Slick! (via)

Flickr Library Humor

This evening, I added the Morris County Library as a contact in Flickr (I add a bunch of libraries a day. Make me a contact if you are a Flickring librar* – I need friends).

In their profile, the librarians mention that the library is 84 years old.

Priceless!

ResizR

MOMB links to ResizR, one of the slickest image resizing tool that I have used in a long while. One of the neatest pieces is that it can grab images from the Web and resize them, saving the user lots of time and drive space. Lovely!

More to Add to LibraryThing

Amazon informed me this morning that Stephen King and Joyce Carol Oates have new books coming out in October. Added to LT and ordered from my library.

For once I wish that my local library would inform me of new books from my favorite authors. Couldn’t they work with Library Journal or some such animal? Sigh.

New To Me Librar* Blogs

+ The Need for (RSS) Feed“This blog will discuss how librarians can use RSS feeds to keep up with all the information that is available on the internet.”

+ The New School Library“Things are changing in the world of information, in the world of instruction, and in the world of school libraries in Canada. The purpose of this blog is to keep on top of these changes.”

+ Lots of blogs from Simon Fraser University Library staff

+ Jersey Girl Librarian“Hi, My name is Sherry, I am a Librarian working in Charlotte North Carolina. I have recently moved to the Charlotte area from New Jersey. As my blog title shows I am a Jersey Girl at heart and wherever I go, so goes my Jersey pride.”

Really, I do a lot more than just make sure the computers are running (but I won’t bore anyone today). In the summer I coordinate the Teen/Tween and Children’s Summer Reading Program. When I’m not doing the tasks mentioned above I’m working reference, circulation, ILL, or whatever else needs my attention.”

More RSS Government Goodies

I miss RSS in Government. Ray Matthews used to kick butt with really cool government RSS initiatives. He would love this one.

An article tipped me off to an award given by the National Conference of State Legislatures for the past two years to those states that make democracy “user-friendly”. In 2005, the winner was the Utah State Legislature and this year, the Minnesota State Legislature took home the honors.

Minnesota State Legislature

That’s an RSS Feed displayed right on the front page. Looking further, we can see that this site has more feeds on it than any state government page.

There’s a feed for every member of the House and Senate, the daily sessions, podcasts (they have enclosures!) from all House Standing Committees, 2 feeds from the Legislative Research Library, and more. My favorite part is that any user can create their own customized page to track anything that they are interested in. What a cool concept and extensive use of RSS to deliver content to constituencies.

Minnesota is one very techie state. First UThink continues to kick tuchas (I heard from a reader who cracked up after I used that word twice in one blog post, so what the heck) and now the Legislature wows us with their RSS savvy. Also, let us not forget the Minneapolis Public Library has been RSS enabled for many years.

Block Party

Yesterday, we attended a block party on my parents street (my old stomping grounds). What a great time we had, hob nobbing with some of my old neighbors and meeting the new ones. This is what community is all about. After reading Meredith’s tribute, I am once again reminded that nothing in life is more important than a loving family and close friends.

Oh, here’s the weekly pics of Hallie and Ari. :-)
