The library weblog dedicated to resources for keeping current and professional development

When It’s Hot, Robert Scoble…

July 23rd, 2006

takes his family to the library:

“After our breakfast we needed to meet up with the people buying our house and Chandu recommended the Redmond Library cause it just was too hot to have a conversation anywhere else. What a wonderful place! Yes, they even have a great place where you can talk. It was pretty much empty. And VERY cool. Even had a drink machine and an eating area where we talked about house sale stuff while Patrick played on his Portable Sony Playstation. Free wifi too.”

Libraries need to hire evangelists (non-librarians please) to blog about them. Any FOLs (Friends of the Library) have blogs where members blog about library services?

Meaning: Is David L. Rothman right, when he says:

“[In] terms of public perception of the profession, I think librarian blogs preach mostly to the choir. Just my $0.02.”

If David is right (I’m not sure he is or isn’t - he could be), then the answer to using blogs for marketing may be to get non-librarians blogging about libraries. Guys like Robert Scoble, who apprarently had a fun time today.

Robert: Too bad PodTech just hired you. The Kings County Library System could use an evangelist. All libraries could.
