Hot Books in The City

July 10th, 2006

A colleague once asked me if it were possible to get a list of the top books sold by Amazon by Zipcode. I replied that I wished that I could see that information, as libraries could see what types of books theoir patrons are interested in. I’m not saying that the libraries should buy these books, but it would useful for ascertaining reading habits.

Today, Amazon Web Services Blog mentioned Top City Books.

topcitybooks

It will list top books by city and can even be broken down into category. I hope that the creators expand on this service and allow for zipcode lookup. Imagine displaying a feed on your library webpage with the top books sold by Amazon in your library district, with links to the library catalog entry or to an Amazon afilliate site. Heck, why not add some Library Thing data to it…
