Best Use of Flickr…Ever!

Jenny Levine mentions the trading cards created by the library staff at Gould Library (Yay Iris).

Color me impressed and I can’t resist saying, suweeeeeeeet!

I’m also thrilled that the trading card pool is getting lots of action these days (probably thanks to Jenny!). If you want to create your own, use this tool. And, of couurse, remember to check out the Library Trading Card blog, where the original idea was generated.

OK, Brian Smith officially rocks. He’s created two more Ari M. album covers. This one is my favorite. I’ve also created a set. Only 4 in there now, so I might have to bribe Brian into creating more.

A Hunka Hunka Librar* Blogs

Ready? Here we go folks. I have a list of about 60 blogs, but I want all of them to get as much action as possible, so I’ll only list 10 at a time. If you’ve submitted your blog and are not listed here, fear not. They will get posted.

FYI, I’m trying to update the librarian reading list (see http://hosting.opml.org/stevencohen/librarians.opml) as I post new blogs. Feel free to play with the OPML file to create neat tools, app, etc.

I’ve also been asked to remove some blogs from my lists, which, of course, I have done. Those who asked me to remove their blogs have all stated that they are meant to be viewed by their staff only and don’t want their blogs to be public. Folks, if you don’t want your library blogs to be public, don’t host them on a public blogging site like Blogger or WordPress. Just sayin’.

Of course, please continue to send in your librar* blogs. If you want a sneak peak at what will be posted, take a look at my delicious tag for library_blogs.

Wow! CyberNet shows off a really cool way to capture parts of screens without having to do any copy/paste/printscreen/photoshopping, etc. It’s a new to me Firefox add-on called Snapper. I Snappered my new contact information. Suweeeeet!

More Ch Ch Ch Ch Changes

Just a quick note that my cell phone number has changed. You can now reach me at 917-837-9706. I’ve also just scored a Verizon Broadband card for my laptop and I answered a library question while in traffic on the LIE this afternoon (no, I wasn’t driving). How about that for 2.0? Wow!

So Many Librar* Blogs

The response to my mega posts listing library and librarian blogs has been overwhelmingly popular. So, to make it a bit easier for me, I’m going to post a new list every Sunday night at around 11:00PM EST.

So, keep ‘em coming. I’m almost convinced that there are more librar* blogs than any other profession, even the PR bloggers, which are always out in force (Hi Kami!).

Also, don’t forget to send me your Flickr URLs, especially if your library has one. I’ll be posting a roundup of those tomorrow night.

Whew!

It’s official. I have a new job at Law Library Management, Inc. It’s been a whirlwind few weeks, but I’m thrilled to be a part of the LLM team. Great owners, fantastic management (also the owners), and I’m back in the library world (Yay!). I answered my first reference question today in 18 months and nailed it. The whole bicycle thing.

Thanks again for your e-mails and I apologize if I haven’t gotten back to you.

More on the new job and what I will be doing for LLM when I get a moment of downtime. But for now….Yay!

Some RSS Goodies

There have been some interesting RSS resources that Aggie has delivered lately. Here’s a bit of a rundown:

+ Michael Sauers lectured about RSS and one of the attendees, who works at the Colorado Talking Book Library, was inspired. He created a text and podcast feed for their quarterly newsletters. Behold, the power of “presentation”. ;-)

+ Peter Scott mentions that the ACLU has a bunch of feeds. New to me.

+ The New York State Education Department has two feeds, one for news and the other from the Office of the Professions.

+ Check out what the library at the University of Alabama has done. They have feeds sorted by LOC, NLM, and SOD. Everybody now. Suweeeeet! Oh, and a tutorial on how to add the feeds to their campus personalization start pages. Bonus! 100 points for UAL.
