EBSCO Offers Alternate Subject Schemes to Customers

May 19th, 2006

I read this on EContent today:

“EBSCO has announced that EBSCO A-to-Z (A-to-Z) customers may choose the subject classification scheme that meets the needs of their patrons. EBSCO is now offering a general headings option, based on a set of headings created by the librarians at EBSCO designed to help patrons find what they are looking for. EBSCO will soon offer a third subject scheme based on the Index Medicus journal classifications, which are focused on medical and health materials.”

So, when will EBSCO allow end users to create their own classifications for articles they read and share them with other users? Yes, I’m talking about tagging. They were one of the first library vendors to play with RSS (not THE first, but one of them), so why not tagging? C’mon EBSCO. You know you want to.
