Help Out an LS Reader

May 3rd, 2006

I received the following e-mail from Richard Kassissieh, a regular reader of Library Stuff:

“My small, independent high school is seeking new library catalog software to replace our current Athena system. Can you recommend a package that takes advantage of new Internet standards, such as tagging, XML markup, user comments on collection items, and search that returns items from our collection, nearby public libraries, and the Internet from one query? I have to believe that such a thing is available given the current state of the Internet, but I have not heard of it yet.”

My guess would be that there are a few open source systems available. Any specific help would be appreciated. You can comment below or send a note to Richard at richard.kassissieh [at]sfuhs.org. Thanks in advance.
