BookFob

This is odd and theoretically cool, but there are lots of questions.

BookFob is an incredible new product from Numly, inc! Rather than carrying books in your briefcase or backpack or carry-on luggage, why not attach your books to your key chain?

BookFob allows you to store electronic books (e-books) on a memory stick that can be attached to your key chain. This memory stick can be plugged into any Windows PC to access your book at any time and anywhere. There is no software to install because our user-friendly e-book reader also resides on the BookFob.”

They have a very small library , but they take custom orders. Ebook evengelists, what do you think? (link via eHub

For You Second Life Folk

I haven’t had a chance to get into SL yet and I probably won’t for a while. To many tools, not enough time. That won’t stop me from posting about it though because I might be able to help in spreading the love. For example, Pete Cashmore blogs. about two tools that will allow you to integrate Flickr and del.icio.us into SL. Enjoy.

A Bunch of New to Me Library Blogs

I’ve been saving these up since the last time. Lots of goodies.

+ Mr. Mustache“I am a reference librarian with experience in both the public and state government fields. I am doing this on a whim, sort of like the mustache I grew when I was 19 and still have in my 50′s.”

+ The L Files“Welcome to The L files, the Library’s new communication channel, which aims to provide you with information on new services and tips on making the most of our resources and services to help” – From Bond University – The library also has RSS Feeds for new titles added to the law and main library. Nice.

+ Physics Information Fluency“For several years, I have been presenting information about information fluency to science faculty, especially faculty who attend the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) meetings. I have crated this blog in order to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas about adding information fluency to physics curriculum.” (via EngLib)

+ Blog of the Prism Fellows“An on-line collaboration of the Prism Plus Fellows at University of Rhode Island, all Master’s candidates in Library and Information Science. Discussion of library-related issues, information literacy, cultural diversity, and working with underserved populations.” – This one excited me. Subscribed!

+ Carolyne’s pages of interest“I am a female, Canadian, solo, corporate, chemistry, engineering, professional librarian (with an engineering degree). Manager of the Library at the Xerox Research Centre of Canada for the last 18 years.”

+ Western Kentucky University Libraries Blog“The goal of the UL Blog is to provide the UL’s patrons timely and useful information about the UL’s services, resources, and its community outreach events and projects. It aims at increasing patrons’ interest in the UL’s web sites and patrons’ interaction with librarians and staff.”

+ LINC Technical Services Task Force Web“A place to find and share the latest updates on LINC cataloging policies and practices.”

+ Musings of a librarian“If only my thoughts were as logical as the Dewey Decimal System”

+ The Relevant Library” This blog* is maintained by Chris Bates, a Senior Library Manager for the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County (PLCMC).” (via Library Crunch)

If you sent in your blog and I failed to post it just give me a nudge. If you want your library blog featured here, just let me know [stevenmcohen at gmail dot com].

The Literature List…More Coming

You may or may not know that I’m a closet litblog fan. For me, these blogs are the best places to find books other than those written about in the NYTBR. This is one of the reasons why I’m excited to announce that the latest entry in the PubSub Community Lists project is Literature Blogs.

We’ve teamed up with the folk at MetaxuCafe (a popular litblog network – and one of the projects of Bud Parr, the proprietor of one of my favorite litblogs, Chekhov’s Misstress) to help maintain the list.

As always, this list has automatically been included in the slowly growing Reading Lists which Dave Winer so gratiously houses.

This is the part of OPML in action that I really love. Everytime we add a new list, it goes into this OPML URL. Anyone who is using that OPML to do really cool stuff (and please let me know if you are using it so I can help promote your app) will automatically see the new list. Also, if we’ve added any new blogs, they will automatically appear. Isn’t that amazing? OK, maybe I’m easily excited, but I really think that this is very big for the syndication community.

Also, we will be releasing 5 more lists over the next 5 weeks. I hope you have an “appetite” for more lists, because you’ll “eat up” what we’re putting out next Monday. ;-)
