MySpace Blocked at Apple Stores
According to ifoAppleStore, MySpace is being blocked at Apple Stores due to bandwidth issues:
“According to visitors, Apple is now blocking the MySpace.com Web site to cut down on net activity. Visitors at certain stores who surf the MySpace.com URL are re-directed to Apple’s own Web site. The move is unrelated to the security issues recently swirling around MySpace.com, I hear. It’s not clear what Internet connection Apple stores have, but speeds are at least 1.5+ Mbps upstream and downstream, with some store networks providing 2.5 Mbps speeds.”
If it’s happening at retail stores, it’s happening at libraries. So, has your library had bandwidth issues due to users logging onto MySpace? Of course, the infrastructure at libraries may be faster than an Apple retail store, but you never know.
What is the impact of MySpace on LibrarySpace?
Yes its a huge issue. We have a fiber line with 10mbs up/down and actually what Roadrunner is giving us is 35mbs down and 8mbs up. We experience traffic issues when high school gets out and are flooded my space users. it doesn’t take very many computers downloading video and audio continuously to experience a slow network.
