Butt of AI Jokes or Real Pop Star
March 1st, 2006No, this isn’t a picture of me from last year. This is one Kevin Covais, from Levittown, Long Island, who happens to be one of 20 finalists for American Idol. Kevin and I have a lot in common. We both look like geeks. We are both short, skinny, wear glasses, and probably have been picked on more than the average guy.
If you watched the show tonight, Kevin gave a pretty good performance of “I Heard it Through the Grapevine.” What really hit me wasn’t the singing (he actually did a good job), but the blatant rudeness of the hosts, the audience, and his fellow candidates. You could tell that he was being made fun of as they smiled through the dry humor, the picture of Chicken Little posted next to Kevin after he sang, and the girls who wanted to pinch his cheeks.
Man I hate presumptuous good-looking-great-body-stuck-up people who make themselves feel better by poking fun at others (and this was on national television). Shame on them.
Kevin was a great sport, though. He took the teasing with stride. He’s a finalist for goodness sake and I hope he wins. If I were in his shoes, I probably would have snapped by now. With the reaction from the audience and the hosts, he might actually have a chance of winning. I voted for him.
Geeks forever!
