The library weblog dedicated to resources for keeping current and professional development

Oy Vey!

February 12th, 2006

Articles like this one, while well intentioned, really need to stop:

“Angela Dubinger is pretty cool, as librarians go.

She chats. She blogs. And she hangs out with teenagers.

It’s kind of a strange gig for a woman in her 30s. But Dubinger, the audio visual and teen services supervisor at New Castle-Henry County Public Library, is the face and brain behind all things new and young at the library. And when dealing with a generation that can’t imagine life without e-mail, text messaging or cell phones, Dubinger has to be creative, and has to communicate on their terms.”

As librarians go? Strange gig for a woman in her 30s? Again, I’m sure Joy Leiker means well, but why ruin such a great piece about librarians with odd and negative statements like that? UGH! I’m e-mailing the journalist with a link to this blog post.

On the bright side, the librarian at the center of the piece seems to be doing a bang up job:

“Her instant messaging screen names are on the library’s Web site — www.nchcpl.org — and she posts messages regularly on the teen blog — nchcplteens.blogspot.com. Every electronic avenue has helped her connect with teens when they come in the library.”
