Web 2.0 Company Blog List
February 7th, 2006Whenever I talk to people about starting a blog, I usually wind up saying stuff like, “find your niche” and go with it, reinvent yourself at least twice a year, never be complacent, always speak your mind, and always put your family first. While those may not fit into your criteria, it has worked for me over the years.
This week, I followed my own advice.
On Sunday, I realized that there wasn’t a comprehensive list of Web 2.0 company blogs available anywhere. (I’ve looked around and just couldn’t find one). So, being the librarian that I am, I started collecting. As of this evening, I have about 60 blogs on the list (you can access it at http://www.bloglines.com/public/web2point0 for now - but it will probably move somewhere else in the future) and it needs a lot more additions to become comprehensive.
So, why do we need such a list?
1) If you follow Web 2.0 companies, their blogs are the place where they will talk about themselves. In some cases, you will read about the culture of the company, some behind the scenes stuff about what makes the company run, as well as other interesting tidbits.
2) While Michael Arrington is the best with providing updates, he doesn’t have time to mention every little feature enhancement from every company. The blogs do this.
3) To show other Web 2.0 companies without blogs that they should get with the program and start one. I was shocked that there were so many out there without blogs. C’mon people!
4) To bring all of the Web 2.0 company information together in one place.
5) Because I needed yet another hobby.
So, I know that I’m missing a ton of company blogs (I’ll be using Michael’s list as a guide over the next few days to add more), so if you know of some that I missed send an e-mail to stevenmcohen [at] gmail [dot] com and I’ll make sure to add them as soon as I can.
Once I have as comprehensive a list as possible, I’ll think of something really cool to do with it. If you have any ideas, leave a comment below.
