Imitation is the highest form of flattery and in this new Web world, there are many out there flattering the heck out of us. Take, for example, Shoutwire, another rating resource similar to Digg, the clear leader in the space. That said, it should not be ignored. Just because Google “rules in search” (note: I don’t believe it does) doesn’t mean that others are meaningless (ie - take a look a the amazing things Ask is doing these days).

Some features I like about Shoutwire:

1) Customization of the front page, based on choosing one or more of the 9 categories (although I’m not sure if the RSS feeds provided for this feature are customized)

2) I can report a bug with the links (a broken or duplicate article, or remove it myself [which is a bit odd, an easy way to play with the rankings]).

Shoutwire still needs some development (and more users) if it wants to compete with the BMOC, but it shouldn’t be ignored. It’s not going to be easy to keep up with though as there is no development blog to subscribe to. Ack!
