Lock Up Your Laptop
October 9th, 2005Jessica Baumgart links to an article in Information Today with advice on keeping your laptop from getting lost or damaged at conferences. One scenario:
“You leave the conference room for a break along with everyone else. Some people are still in the room, so you don’t feel a need to lock up your laptop with its security cable. The registration person has taken a break too, so a thief is able to pick up an unclaimed name badge, walk into the room, and leave with your laptop under the coat wrapped around his arm.”
This one actually happened to me last year at Internet Librarian. I can’t help but to think that ITI published this article because of that incident. Good. Please, always be wary of your surroundings when in Monterey, always making sure that you have your laptop with you at all times. Never leave it alone or with anybody you don’t trust. That said, let’s make sure we blog this conference with a vengence and not let the terrorists win.
