MPOW?

OK, I’ve held out on posting this for too long because I was trying to grasp the concept, staying up at night thinking, “What the heck am I missing here?” So, here I go.

Why do librarian bloggers refer to their place of employment as MPOW? I know what it stands for (no need to help me out there), but why do it at all? When I talk about my job, I name the company. The only answer that I could think of is that using MPOW instead of the actual name of the place will thwart bosses’ research in locating the posts on blog or general Web engines. But that answer is faulty, because those that use the acronym MPOW have already told us where they work.

So, help me out here. What am I missing?
