The library weblog dedicated to resources for keeping current and professional development

Housekeeping - Catching Up

July 14th, 2005

Hello LS readers. I’ve been preparing for my fall speaking tour (I’m going acoustic this time) as well as other programs that I will be involved in over the next few months, so I thought I’d provide an update.

My speaking schedule (so far) is as follows:

+ August 11th - Businesswire Panel - Minneapolis, MN
+ September 14th - Council of Federal Libraries - Ottawa, Canada
+ September 18th - Blog-U - Arlington, VA
+ September 23rd - Nassau Library System - Uniondale, NY
+ October 5th - Mid-Atlantic Chapter/Medical Library Association - Charlottesville, Virginia
+ October 21st - ENY/ACRL - Poughkeepsie, NY (not confirmed)
+ October 24th - 26th - Internet Librarian - Monterey, California
+ November 17th - Twenty-first Century Literacies Conference - Lowell, MA

In addition, I wanted to remind you of two big events:

1) I am the co-chair (with Jane Dysart) of Blog-U, a full day event (sponsored by ITI) with fabulous speakers on how to get weblogs to work well in the library setting. The program has been posted. If you’re still not sure about implementing weblogs in your library (corporate, academic, public, school), this event would be perfect for you. It will be held on Sunday, September 18, at the Marriott Crystal City in Arlington, VA.

2) On Saturday evening at Internet Librarian (Monterey, CA), I’ll be hosting the first annual IL Demo Derby. Here’s the description:

“The first annual “Show Off Your Library” event at Internet Librarian will quickly become a crowd favorite. Learn about creative projects, Web sites designs, resource pages, and more from your fellow attendees. Short, 7-minute nugget-filled presentations will inspire you before the conference even begins! Have a prototype and would like some feedback before it goes live? Need advice on an ongoing project? Show it off at IL and get the response you need.”

If you have a neat web-based library project that you want to show off, send it in to Jane Dysart at jane [at] dysartjones.com or me at stevenmcohen [at] gmail.com, and we’ll make sure you get the floor for 7 minutes.

So, that’s what I’m going to be doing over the next 5 months. Oh yeah, a book will also be written during this time period. I hope to see you on the road (or in a hotel, where it’s safer…)
