Purina, RSS, and Your Library
June 1st, 2005I rarely address the “RSS is good for business” mantra that is popular among marketing and corporate professionals. I probably should as I still believe that libraries are businesses and should be treated as such, especially in marketing. A great example of this is the Purina RSS Feeds. They have 8 feeds going, including cat advice (emotional, nutritional, and physical) and expert cat and dog care advice.
RSS is one of the easiest ways to get content out to users these days. It is starting to make some headway in the library world and hopefully will continue to do so. When people ask me why their library should have RSS feeds, I answer with one word: marketing. Remember, if your library has a blog, it (more than likely) has an RSS feed.
