Surviving Chronic E-Mail Fatigue

March 5th, 2005

In his latest column for Computers in Libraries, Andrew K Pace writes about “Surviving Chronic E-Mail Fatigue”. I’ll have get my hands on it when I get to D.C. next week. I wonder if he attempts to solve the unsolvable…

On that note, I have new e-mail guidelines. I read every piece of e-mail (not that many these days) that arrives in my inbox, but only respond right away to the important ones. “Important” in this case is totally subjective in nature. If I don’t deem it important, I’ll respond to it within a weeks time. However if you send me a message via IM or Skype, I will respond instantly (hence the term ‘Instant Messenger’). Hence, I’ve updated my contact page with details as to when I’m on IM and Skype.

Also, did you know that you can leave a text message for me on Skype even if I’m offline? The IM people should jump on that bandwagon as soon as possible.
