Libraries Matter…Is it a Blog?
February 1st, 2005This evening, del.icio.us linked me over to Libraries Matter a neat looking site put out by the Alliance Library System. They have these blue bracelets for sale (I think I saw a bunch at Midwinter, but I could be wrong). So, I wanted to do some checking up on the Alliance Library System and saw that they had a blog on their site. Wow, two library systems in Illinois with blogs on their homepages. Very impressive.
But then I looked a bit closer. Is it a blog? I’m not sure. The posts are in reverse chronological order with dates clearly marked. There are short posts and links, plus commentary. Blog, right? Look again. No permalinks. No feed. No Blogroll. Confused? You bet I am.
Why take the time to make a site look like a blog (They HAVE to know what they are) without actually having a blog?
I just checked Jenny’s site before publishing this post (to see if she had mentioned it - I’ve been away from my aggregator since last night - being an Illinois librarian and all) and she had the same thoughts I did (although she was a bit nicer about it).
BTW, Sarah Long, who gets a spotlight on the Libraries Matter page, has had a feed for her column for a couple of years now. I’ve mentioned this in the past, but I figured that it needed mentioning again, just in case the people over at the Alliance Library System are reading this…
