The library weblog dedicated to resources for keeping current and professional development

Are You Getting Tired of These Posts Yet?

February 1st, 2005

Us RSS folks have had a love/hate relationship with Library Journal. They love to publish articles which mention RSS (the love part) but haven’t implemented the technology yet (the hate part).

I went to the site today because I thought that there would be an article in the latest issue about the PLA Blog (I was interviewed a few weeks ago) and came across three articles (well, two articles and 1 short essayish piece) which I would probably have missed if I weren’t such an egotist and checked the LJ site (which I haven’t done in about 6 months). I haven’t had time to read them yet (because I’m ranting instead of reading) but they look fascinating.

1) Community Exploded, by Stephen Abram

2) The Google Opportunity, by Stephen Abram (again)

3) The top 10, by Aaron Schmidt

So, I’m going to say this once more for those at LJ that read my blog (and I know of one person who does). Support RSS. Trust me on this. Your readership will only increase and you will get more traffic to your site. It hasn’t failed yet. No company has gone out business because of RSS offerings.

And don’t think that I’m going to let my sponsor get off that easy either (I love ya Bill). Last year, I was promised more feeds, and I haven’t seen anything new since. Here’s the good news. I have lots of meeting with the ITI folks at Computers In Libraries in March. Guess what I’m going to bring up?
