I knew that I would love looking at this presentation titled, Enhancing Internal Communications with Blogs, Wikis, and More after reading the first few sentences:

“With so many virtual teams today, along with what some are calling the “collapse of email”, organizations are looking for new and innovative ways for teams to communicate. For many, the integrated communication and information-sharing system that inexpensive Blogs and Wikis provide are just what the doctor ordered.”

I have been on both sides of the table, using blogs to communicate externally and a wiki internally. I must also admit that I am in total wiki mode lately. The other day, Andrea introduced me to Jotspot, and made me fall head over heels in love with it (Thanks). We talked about it for over an hour while I was on the train ride home on Tuesday and when I logged on at home and took it for a spin, I actually started to drool because my mouth was wide open for an extended period of time.

Jot is currently in beta and if you want to try it out, you may have a wait a couple of days before you get an account, but trust me, it will be worth the wait.

I also can’t wait to hear Will Richardson’s presentations on Wikis at CIL this March. You’re going, right? We’re doing an entire track on communities and collaboration. Here is the blurb from the track:

“Social networking, social software, and collaboration are hot topics today. Information professionals have been collaborating for a long time, with consortia packages and interlibrary loan initiatives. There are, however, more ways in which librarians can collaborate with each other on projects and group work utilizing online tools and the latest gadgets.”

On another note (geez, this post should have been broken up into three), I heard back from the national library organization about my presentation on open tagging, and it’s probably a go. More details as I get them.

Oh, one more thing. I’ll be doing two presentations at the Texas Library Association conference in April. One on keeping current and the other on social networks. The blurb for the latter reads:

Collaboration, Communities, and Social Networks - New
Realities for Librarians
- Examine social networks and professional collaboration from a sociological, economic, and psychological perspective. Learn about practical uses of these networks for librarians and libraries, both online and off”

It’s going to be my first “social networks” presentation. I’m so excited.
