Media Chest

Mediachest “allows members to manage their collections of books, DVDs, CDs and video games by creating a personal library. The site facilitates both the borrowing and lending of these items in a fashion similar to online auctions — without the fees. Mediachest’s system offers, free of charge, user profiles, feedback pages and popularity rankings. Employing “2-way borrows” ensures that the system is not abused. Mediachest members can search and view other members’ collections based on a variety of categories including personal friend groups, geographic proximity (via zip code), or other external groups such as student organizations, university departments, work place groups and more.”

If anything, this is just an impressive way to organize your own library of books, CDs, and DVDs. That it can be used to keep track of materials lent and borrowed is an added bonus. I’m just shocked that this site has been around for 2 years and I hadn’t come across it until tonight. (link via Dolla Bizz)

LISFeeds 2.0

Even though I had nothing to do with it, I figured that I would mention that we (well, Blake) rolled out a new version of LISFeeds this week. Didja notice? There are now 123 library-related feeds included on the page with a bunch of neat little options.

+ New Items – Displays posts that have been added in the past two hours.

+ Today’s Items – Displays posts that have been added today.

+ Random Feed – Displays 10 random feeds that are currently in the LISFeeds database.

+ Search – No boolean in there yet. Search only one word at a time.

Blake has done great work at LISFeeds. He deserves all of the credit for running with the idea of a portal for the library and information science field. He is an excellent librarian, a wonderful colleague, a true friend, and a smart guy. Great work Blake.

PubSub in 2005

Bob Wyman gives us a small hint of what PubSub will be doing in 2005. I can’t wait.

Great quote from the promo: “In 2005, I’ll know more in less time”

Why I love Peter Scott

I don’t know how Peter Scott does it. He is a master at finding RSS tools, new feeds, etc. I just love it. On Tuesday, he mentioned this:

Mealey’s via RSS“LexisNexis Mealey Publications and Conferences group now makes its top headlines available via an RSS feed. Simply add our channel – listed below – to your RSS reader to stay updated on the latest legal news throughout the day.”

This is a first that I know of from any Lexis product. Great news.
