Researching News on Westlaw: See Articles Once, but not a Thousand Times
October 10th, 2004From the press release:
“Tired of seeing double when researching business and news resources? Thomson West, part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), today announced a new de-duplication feature on WestlawÒ that automatically identifies, tags and sorts duplicate copies of news articles and business records in search results. Westlaw users can chose to remove or identify, in sorted order, duplicates. This unique feature will save researchers countless hours weeding through search results, and is part of Thomson West’s strategy to offer the legal industry’s most current, comprehensive and on-point business information, news and public records research service.”
Great news!! This is something that I would love to see duplicated in the next aggregator upgrades. It shouldn’t be too hard to implement. Duplication most often occurs (and most annoying) in my customized news feeds due to the many online services that pick up AP or Reuters stories. Most of the time, they just grab the same titles. If an aggregator could pick up on this duplication and only show me the story one time, I’d be thrilled. (link via ResourceShelf)
Hey Lexis: You may want to take a page in the Westlaw playbook and implement this type of service. And did you know that Westlaw provides customized RSS Feeds….
