Grow the Profession: Marketing the Librarian

September 25th, 2004

I always link to articles that I have written. It’s an important marketing skill. It would also be ironic if I left this one out. The article appears in this months issue of LISCareer.com. A quote:

“There are numerous ways for librarians to market themselves, online and offline. While the method above requires the social skills necessary to “talk the talk” with the administration of an organization (in my case, a law firm), there are other ways in which we can present our ideas, project implementations, articles, and awards to the necessary personnel. This article will address three topics. First, I will talk about how the online world is full of resources and tools for librarians to market themselves. Second, I will show examples of how some librarians market themselves well in these online environments. Last, I will discuss the multifaceted reasons why librarians should market themselves.”

I have also started to post my articles on the right side of the weblog. The latest one (besides this one) is called “Eight Steps for Keeping Current”, which appears in the Sept/Oct issue of Knowledge Quest. Eventually, I’ll have my Internet Spotlight Column titles up there too.
