Library Web Chic builds own XML Blogging Tool - Film at 11

July 24th, 2004

Karen Coombs, one of my favorite Library Web Chics has developed an XML based blogging tool for her library. This deserves my patented “Suweeeeeeet!”

Not only that, but read what she has to say about keeping up with her knowledge of XML:

“Everytime I work on a project like this I get more code that I can use, more ideas about new stuff to try, and a greater breadth of experience. That way I won’t be surprised or unease when there comes a time when I HAVE to deal with XML. You notice that I used the word WHEN. This is because I feel that it is only a matter of time before you too will have to do an XML-based project. Trying to stay slightly ahead of the curve is hard but I have found it well worthwhile. Who knows what the next thing to learn will be but I’d rather learn the ropes on a little project that isn’t “do or die” than have a huge pressure project come along and not have the foggiest about the technology behind it.”

Great point, and one that I’m going to bring up the next time I speak on “Keeping Current”. This is an area of currency that I have not explored, but it makes perfect sense after reading it. Thanks Karen, and remember, I owe you a lunch.
