Grateful Dead Heaven
April 3rd, 2004Totally non-library related, but I can’t help but to post this.
The Internet Archive now has over 300 Grateful Dead shows for your listening pleasure. They have concerts from 1979, 1985, and 1990. You have the choice to download or stream the shows to your desktop. I am going through them show by show at work and home. I only had the pleasure of attending 2 Dead shows in my life (the 1994 summer tour) and they were indescribable. This resource is a must for Deadheads everywhere.
OK, I’ll relate this to libraries: It would suweeeet to index each one of these shows onto a public library catalog, with links to the IA. Even better, allow patrons to choose which shows they want and circulate them on Mp3 players. Hey Aaron, how ’bout it? Think your patrons would be interested? I can hear the reference question that could arise:
Patron: Hey man, (puff) can you get me the ‘79 show from Philly? Jerry sounded incredible that night!!!
