Wired Article on weblog Attribution
March 5th, 2004Today, Michael linked to this Wired piece on the attribution process that takes place (or rather doesn’t take place) in the weblog world. If you’ll remember, this is a big issue for me and I was doing Jenny’s patented happy dance as I read through the article. I have always known it to be true that the “A-List” people get their ideas and resources from less-known weblogs/sites. Now, I’m not saying that they tout these as their own, but many do not give the credit to these lesser known weblogs. It happens all the time.
Is this a personal thing? Sure, it happens to me all of the time. I’ll find this incredible resource, post it to LS (and obviously provide attribution) or, more recently Lockergnome) and, when it finally hits the “big time”, the more popular weblogs will get the credit. And it’s not just weblogs. Journalists are now famous for tracking the blogosphere for hip ideas, software, or theories, then they write articles about the topic as if they are breaking the story.
Forgive my crankiness. I turn 30 next week (I know, I know, I’m so young) and I think I’m getting all pissy about it.
